My Research Interest
Nowadays, we are observing how high performance computing devices are becoming essential part of our everyday life and experts foresee a growing trend in next future. As a result, the complexity of future computing systems will become extremely difficult to handle without novel approaches, incorporating intelligence, self-tuning capabilities and distributed resources management.
Self-adaptive computing can provide an efficient and disruptive response these problems at all levels. Self-adaptive computing requires a complete hierarchy of concepts and properties: from the overall application level, to computing devices, down to the hardware level where specific circuits.
Security is another important aspect to be considered in the context of pervasive systems. However, self-adaptive computing capability introduces new security challenges in the design of such embedded systems both in term of computational resources and network quality of service. An adaptive security approach will be able to respond to any permanent or transient security requirements of the operating environment.
My contributions
Securing such systems, with optimal use of resources, requires a new comprehensive and domain-independent methodology which copes both with architectural design and network protocols. My research interest are related to methodologies to meet such challenges. In particular, at architecture level, I propose a model for system security self-adaptivity. At network level, my contribution is twofold: I present protocols to deal with dynamic negotiation of security settings for communications; and to evaluate the reliability of the different nodes in the network, thus providing a trusting mechanism among nodes.
Algorithms for Multi Criteria Decision Making and Linear Programming technique are used to dynamically adapt the security of the system.
