Workshop: "Learning: Paradigms or Technology?" |
| In recent years, the use of technology in learning processes has been widely discussed and applied, leading to various approaches to "e-learning". More recently, attention has focused on the different paradigms that contribute to complex learning processes, and to the interaction between such paradigms and technology. The workshop presented points of view and experiences on paradigm-technology interaction in learning that were worked out in EU-funded projects. |

Current Processor Architectures and Compiler Techniques |
We'd like to inform you that we are organizing a course entitled
"Current Processor Architectures and Compiler Techniques"
within the framework of an European project called ANTITESYS. The objective of the project is to train personnel in designing and manufacturing embedded systems. It also tries to promote the mobility between different European universities. Within this context we have organized a course for April 13-16, 2004 that could be of interest to many of your students. The course will be taught by leading professors in this field coming from European and American universities. The registration fees are 90 euros. You can find additional information for the course and the registration procedure at the URL: http://research.ac.upc.es/CAP/ANTITESYS We'd like that you could widespread this message to the people involved in your research group and of course to everyone that you think could also be interested in its attendance. |

Banca della Svizzera Italiana - Prize 2003, - 13th February, 2004 |
ALaRI is delighted to communicate that the Prize for 2003 of the Fondazione del Centenario della Banca della Svizzera italiana, amounting to CHF 100'000, is awarded to the University of Lugano (USI). With this sum, the University will support ALaRI, an institute for training and advanced research in hardware/software design for embedded systems, in recognition of its contributions to the development of teaching and research in the area of informatics.
ALaRI was founded at the University of Lugano in 1999 and has promoted teaching and research through its Advanced Master of Engineering program. Courses and projects are organized in close, international co-operation with specialized university institutes, industrial partners and research centres and have a pragmatic and practice-oriented approach. In the past few years, ALaRI has successfully tackled projects in the areas of security and pervasive computing.
The Award ceremony will take place tomorrow, Friday, 13th February 2004, at 6.00 pm in the Aula Magna of the University of Lugano. The President of the Foundation, Franco Masoni, and the President of the Chancellor Conference of Swiss Universities, Professor Jean-Marc Rapp, will present the motivation and the laudatio. |
