Application Procedure

Deadlines
If you are interested in participating at the ALaRI Master Programs: MAS 2011/2012 and MSc 2011/2013, please send us your application by:
  • Applications will open on January 2011
  • 15 June 2011 - application deadline with scholarship request for MAS (Master of Advanced Studies) (full-time or part-time)program or MSc (Master of Science) program
  • 1 Jully 2011 - application deadline without scholarship request for MAS (Master of Advanced Studies)(full-time or part-time)program or MSc (Master of Science) program.
Late applications without scholarship are considered if study places are still available

Required documents and Information
All documents and diplomas should be in English, French, German, Italian or Spanish*. Please join a legalized translated copy of all documents written in another language. Your application should consist of the following documentation:
  1. A fulfilled and signed ALaRI Application Form. (Please, specify which ALaRI Master you wish to attend!)
  2. A copy of your University degree(s) or Bachelor's degree. If you don't have your degree yet, please send a copy of your grades so far (current transcript). As soon as your BSc is awarded, please send us a copy so as to complete your file.
  3. Transcript for each academic year also if in different universities you have attended.
  4. Passport photos of you (in case of by post application 3 photos) (format: 3.5 x 4.5 cm color photo).
  5. A photocopy of your identity card or passport.
  6. A curriculum vitae (resume) detailing your academic, and if applicable, your professional experiences, including any publications, referencies, honors or awards that you might have received
  7. For foreigners already living in Switzerland: a photocopy of your residence permit.
  8. Letters of recommendation (appreciated but not mandatory, max 3) see below the Recomendation Letter section for more details
Extra documents such as TOEFL or GRE scores, copies of research publications or other portfolios of your previous work, are not compulsory.

* while Spanish is not a Swiss official languages, ALaRI admission committee can accept such documentation.

Application submission
You can submit the requested documentation through the: the procedures are formally equivalent, but ALaRI Admission committee, basing on previous experiences, recommends the on line application procedure in order to avoid latencies or similar troubles.

Please note: We cannot accept your application if you do not send us all documentation listed above. If you choose to apply via post you are requested to print the PDF application form file, to fulfill it with your application data. Once your application is completed, date it, sign it and send it by post to the Admission’s Office. Make sure you send all the required documents together and send your application on time. ALaRI will not be able to process late or incomplete application files.

You can do your application by online procedure or via post.
Please make sure that all documents are nicely scanned and readable. Otherwise we cannot accept your application.

For your admission to ALaRI Master Programs we need official degree from previous studies, official transcript of your courses and the final marks you obtained (the list of the required documents in the section Required Documents and Information). At application time it is possible to send a photocopy or a high-quality scanned version of the transcript. In case you are selected for the ALaRI Master Program, you will be required to send the corresponding original transcript and degree in order for your admission to be officially accepted. ALaRI office will not take responsibility to send back any official documentation.

You will need a residence permit to stay in Switzerland. For this reason, please send us any sensitive information about your civil status and your personal data (including phone number of where you can be reached). This data will be treated by ALaRI office as confidential information.


Recomendation Letters
The letters of recommendation must be issued by professors (or similary qualified persons) who are well aware of your work and qualities. Each letter can be uploaded through online application procedure or delivered by e-mail (master@alari.ch) or send to ALaRI office in paper form in an separate envelope and sealed by the professor's signature. In all three ways of delivering your name and the programme (MAS or MSc) to which you are applying must be clearly stated. Recommendation letters can also be sent from recommender's official e-mail ID (like company domain ID in case of employer; or university domain ID in case of teacher).

What happens when I send my application to the ALaRI Institute?
The following points will explain to you what happens when you send an application for the ALaRI Master's Degree Program.
We provide Application Status page, where those of you who apply online can check the status of their application at any moment.
  • You send your application to the ALaRI Institute.
  • The ALaRI Institute receives your application and sends you via e-mail a reception confirmation.
  • Right after the deadline without Scholarship application on 1 July 2011, the admission committee will decide on the students for the Master of Science Program 2011-2013 and Master of Advanced Studies Program 2011-2012.
  • The ALaRI Institute will inform you about the decision of the ALaRI admission committee (acceptance with or without scholarship, waiting list, or rejection) by the end of July 2011 via e-mail and postal mail.
  • Please, if you are accepted, then confirm your participation to the selected ALaRI Master Program by sending us e-mail as soon as possible, and in any case by the end of August 2011.
